Womens' Health - Breast Care
Diagnosed in one of every nine women, breast cancer is one of today's major health concerns. With and emphasis on prevention and early detection, North Baldwin Infirmary offers women in our area an integrated program of breast care education, technology, diagnosis and treatment - all with respect for your privacy and dignity.
Mammography
Mammography is one of medicine's most powerful diagnostic procedures for detecting breast abnormalities. At North Baldwin Infirmary our mammography unit is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR), which means that our radiologist and technicians are specially trained and certified in mammography, and that our equipment meets ACR's high standards.
MammoPads
North Baldwin Infirmary is the only hospital in Mobile and Baldwin counties to use the FDA-approved Women's Touch MammoPad. MammoPad is an adhesive-backed, single use cushion that is applied to the mammography machine. The Women's Touch MammoPad breast cushion places a soft, warm, protective surface between the breast and the mammography machine which can significantly increase a woman's comfort without affecting image quality.
Breast Ultrasound
A breast ultrasound is a painless, non-invasive procedure that is often used to further evaluate a breast abnormality that may have been detected through a mammogram.
Ultrasound Guided Needle Biopsy
Ultrasound Guided Breast Biopsy is a minimally-invasive, highly accurate way to evaluate susoicious masses within the breast. The benefits of needle biopsy over surgery include less scarring, faster recovery time and the opportunity to evaluate and plan options for further treatment.
Surgical Services
North Baldwin Infirmary surgeons offer a variety of breast care options and treatments for breast cancer, including breast conservation surgery and sentinel lymph node biopsy.
Breast Self-Exam Education
With early detection and proper treatment, breast cancer has a very high recovery rate. At North Baldwin Infirmary, we realize the importance of early detection and offer free educational information and instruction in the correct procedure for a self-exam.
