North Baldwin Infirmary Participates in Scale Back Alabama Campaign

For the second time, North Baldwin Infirmary will participate with hundreds of other organizations in a statewide weight-loss program called “Scale Back Alabama.”

The program is designed to capitalize on those New Year’s resolutions and create a fun atmosphere for weight loss and physical activity. Scale Back Alabama begins Jan. 7 and ends March 14, 2008. North Baldwin Infirmary Wellness Center will serve as an official weigh-in center for this competition.

Those interested in losing weight are asked to form a team of four (including a captain). Teams will sign up to compete at the NBI Wellness Center during the week of Jan. 7 – 11 between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. and have first official weigh-ins.

The goal of the contest is to get each individual on a team to lose one pound per week for a total of 10 pounds during the contest. Every individual who completes the 10-week contest and loses at least 10 pounds will have his/her name placed in a drawing for one of 20 statewide prizes of $250 each.

The team that maintains all of its original team members throughout the contest with each losing at least 10 pounds will have its name placed in a drawing for one statewide grand prize of $1,000 per team member. Prize winners will be announced on April 1 in Montgomery.

In an effort to support weight loss for all team members, North Baldwin Infirmary has scheduled an educational seminar entitled “The Skinny on Weight Loss,” presented by NBI dietitian JoAnna Cupp. It will be held at the NBI Wellness Center on Jan. 17 at noon to 1 p.m. Attendees will learn to adopt behaviors that promote healthy eating and how to reduce calorie intake.
