Seventh Annual Women'sBest Health Fair Feb. 5

North Baldwin Infirmary Women’sBest and the American Heart Association will host north Baldwin County’s biggest women’s health fair of the year in February. The seventh annual event titled “From our Heart to Yours” serves to raise awareness about women and cardiovascular disease, the No. 1 killer of American women.

To reduce the risk of heart disease, women are encouraged to take the step to get a heart checkup and become educated about their heart health. Free heart health screenings such as height and weight, body mass index, waist/hip ratio, blood pressure and fasting glucose screenings, and complete cholesterol testing (free to the first 50 participants) will be offered. All participants will receive a heart health risk assessment performed by the NBI nursing staff.

A variety of other health checks will be offered at the event including bone density screenings provided by North Baldwin OB-GYN; oxygen saturation tests conducted by NBI’s respiratory department, and vein disease screenings performed by Cares Health Services. LifeSouth, the hospital’s community blood bank, will also be on site to collect blood donations.

Health lectures at the event include: “Fire in a Woman’s Heart: Dangers Lurking Therein” by Dr. Ralph Buckley of Cardiology Associates; “Diet and Diabetes: The Diabetic Goal” by NBI hospitalist Dr. Amy Armstrong; and “The Latest Nonsurgical Cosmetic Procedures” by Dr. William Staggers of Eastern Shore Plastic Surgery.

Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to treat themselves to the serenity of a Spa Escape, a massage, and a Movement for Life Pilates class.

Exhibits will feature information on emotional health, wellness, prevention, relaxation, humor and pampering. The North Baldwin Infirmary Women’sBest health fair is sponsored by the North Baldwin Health Care Authority. The event is open to women of all ages and will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 5 at the North Baldwin Infirmary Wellness Center. Health screenings will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon.
